SCANPAN’s love of good food – for ingredients of exceptional quality and passionate cooking that brings out flavour, aroma, and character – is reflected in the way we produce our unique non-stick pans and cookware. As we see it, good food deserves quality tools, made with the same commitment, respect, and care that we show in the production and handling of our food. This places high demands on our manufacturing processes and on the quality of our raw materials.

Our non-stick products are manufactured in Denmark under strict environmental standards. We focus on reducing our environmental impact – among other things by developing durable cookware designed to last for many years, thereby reducing the need for frequent replacement. We continuously strive to make the best choices for both the users of our products and for the environment.

Thoughtful material choices

Building on our long-standing craftsmanship traditions, we go to great lengths to ensure that every SCANPAN product meets our strict requirements for performance and long-lasting durability.

SCANPAN uses recycled aluminium – aluminium that has previously been used in, for example, cans, bicycle frames, or similar products. However, using a recycled material in our production does not mean compromising on quality; the recycled, remelted aluminium is a completely pure raw material of at least the same high quality as virgin aluminium, with the same outstanding heat-conducting properties. This choice helps us reduce energy consumption and waste in our production.

Combined with the long lifespan of SCANPAN products, the use of recycled aluminium helps reduce our overall CO₂ footprint and ensures that we make the most of the resources available.

Are PFAS used in Scanpan's nonstick products?

Yes, and here’s why. Scanpan's nonstick products contain PTFE which is included in the large group of PFAS substances. In cookware, these substances lend durability and superior nonstick properties and are completely bound in the hardened coating, so they will not transfer to food or the environment during use.

Our STRATANIUM® nonstick is the most sustainable choice because it is more durable and longer lasting than non-PTFE based nonstick options.

Is it safe to use cookware if the coating is worn or damaged?

No. Normal signs of use and surface marks do not make your cookware unsafe to use. However, if the coating is worn all the way through and the underlying material is visible in the cooking surface, we recommend replacing the product.

SCANPAN’s non-stick coating acts as a protective barrier between the aluminium and the food, and as long as the coating is intact, the product is safe to use.

There is a difference between cosmetic marks and actual breakthroughs in the coating. When the coating is worn through, performance is no longer optimal, and we therefore recommend replacement. Not because it poses an immediate risk, but because you no longer get the performance and protection the product is designed to deliver.

Can I overheat my fry pan?

Long before you reach a temperature high enough to damage the surface, your food will start to burn. You cannot overheat your frying pan during normal cooking. Always start preheating your pan on medium heat for best cooking results.

Does Scanpan offer a non-stick coating produced without PFAS?

Stratanium® Leap is the result of our continuous focus on innovation and responsibility. With Leap, we offer the same high-performance non-stick – now also produced without PFAS.

Like all other Stratanium® coatings, Stratanium® Leap has undergone extensive physical stress testing, both in our own laboratories and at independent technology institutes.
