User guide for your non-stick products

Scanpan non-stick coating in brief:

  • Produced in Denmark at the factory in Ryomgård

Our two non-stick coatings

Over the years, the experts at our factory in Ryomgård have come up with two different non-stick coatings, which we now use on all our non-stick products.

  • Stratanium – an exquisite coating
  • Stratanium+ – a quite extraordinary coating

Non-stick in use

Most damage to a non-stick coating occurs due to overheating. This will reduce the non-stick effect over time. Read more here or watch the video further down the page to see how to get the most out of your non-stick product.

Before first use: Remove all stickers. Wash the product in warm, soapy water with a nylon brush, cloth or sponge and wipe it dry.

In use: The product should only be used for preparing and serving food. Take care not to overheat the product, as this will reduce the non-stick effect.

A: Frying with fat: 

  • Heat the product to frying temperature at medium heat for just a few minutes, then add your desired fat.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures and overheating – avoid frying at the highest temperature. It is not necessary and you risk the oil burning into the coating and damaging it over time. In addition, a cold pan can become warped if you place it directly on a hob that is too hot.
  • Do not use aerosol sprays on non-stick cookware as oil from aerosol cans burns at lower temperatures, thereby increasing the risk of damage to your non-stick product.

B: Fat-free frying: 

  • Heat the product to frying temperature at medium heat for just a few minutes, after which you can start frying.

Maintenance and cleaning of non-stick products

Incorrect cleaning may also cause damage to your non-stick product. Watch the video further down the page or read the guide here for proper cleaning and maintenance.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • The product is best cleaned while still warm, although it should be left to cool for about 5 minutes before washing it in warm water with dishwashing liquid.
  • Avoid cold water on a hot pan – never pour cold water on a hot pan or pot as it can warp the bottom.
  • Always use dishwashing liquid – Always wash your non-stick products in hot water with dishwashing liquid. The product should be completely clean. Otherwise, the non-stick effect may deteriorate over time.
  • Never use a metal scouring pad or scouring powder to clean your pot or pan. The product should be completely dry and clean before you put it away.
  • With use, some wear and tear may become visible on the surface. This is normal and will not affect the non-stick effect.

Dishwasher

You can wash your non-stick products in the dishwasher. However, it is not recommended as it shortens the life of the product.

How to save a pot or pan from burnt-on food

You do not need to use a lot of elbow grease or strong cleaning agents if your cookware is burnt.

The following is not a complete list of cleaning methods, but it offers some alternatives that do not require expensive equipment – or at worst, a new pot. 

Detergent (for clothes):

  • Pour a little water (about 2 dl) into the bottom of the pot or pan and add a little detergent (use what you normally use in the washing machine)
  • Turn on the stove and bring the mixture to a boil. Let it boil for about 10 minutes (more time will not give a better result)
  • Then clean the cookware as usual with water and dishwashing liquid
  • If there are still some burnt-on residues on the bottom, you can remove them with a scouring pad

 
Dishwasher detergent (for dishwashing machine): Dishwasher detergent (tablets or powder) for the dishwashing machine is stronger than regular detergents and you may therefore find that dishwasher tablets can dissolve food residues that normal detergent cannot get rid of.

  • Pour about 2 dl of water into the pot together with a dishwasher tablet
  • Boil for about 10 minutes (more time will not give a better result).
  • Then clean the cookware with water and regular dishwashing liquid – a scouring pad can be of good use.
